Dear Visitor,

Thank you for visiting my website. I am Dr. Fred Bloem from Olney, Maryland, and I have a holistic and integrative medical practice.

My basic medical education consists of internal medicine and family medicine. My desire to be a better physician for my patients led me to start my own medical practice and broaden my educational horizons. My advanced postgraduate training includes nutritional medicine, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (including the Wiley Protocol), the Dr. Simeons HCG Diet Protocol and other weight reduction therapies, energetic healing (including NeuroModulation Technique and Emotional Freedom Technique), and maggot debridement therapy for poorly healing wounds and ulcers.

Because my medical practice is unique, I attract patients from many states in the northeastern and midatlantic regions of the United States and some have come from more remote locations.

Many people found me because they have been referred by existing patients. Others have found me by searching the Internet. Many of these have suffered health problems for a long time, consulted with a lot of other physicians, and were not able to find or receive the care that they needed.

Other people are simply looking for a good personal physician for themselves or for their family. These are they who need more than a rushed 15-minutes-or-less face time with a physician in a crowded medical office. They recognize that over the years the mechanic spent more time with their cars than their doctors did with them..

Because of my background in internal medicine and family medicine, I am comfortable treating both children and adult men and women with a wide variety of health concerns.

After practicing as a traditional allopathic physician for several years, it became clear to me that Western medicine as it is being taught and practiced by most physicians today has its limitations. One of the main concerns that I had was that many of the allopathic treatments do not address the underlying causes of a patient’s illness. I recognized that many common diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and others were linked to obesity. However, like most physicians, I felt unprepared to help my patients lose weight.

Postgraduate training in bariatric medicine, bio-identical hormone therapies, orthomolecular medicine, and energy medicine (NeuroModulation Technique (NMT) and Emotional Freedom Technique), has made it possible for me to help my patients more effectively, more quickly, and with safer treatment methods.

Besides that, I am now able to help my patients with a much wider variety of health concerns. They include:

All allergies

All autoimmune diseases

Addictions

Acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

Autism

Crohn’s disease, irritable syndrome

Diabetes mellitus

Emotional, psychological, and sensory/motor neurological disturbances

Hypertension

Hypothyroidism

Infectious diseases

Obesity

It is the combination of my genuine concern for my patients’ well-being and attention to detail, my traditional medical training, my experience in helping patients with their weight problems, safe nutritional, natural, and energetic treatments that makes my practice unique.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Fred Bloem, M.D.

Genuine HCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) can only be obtained from a licensed physician.

There is some confusion surrounding this topic because there are some Internet based companies that sell HCG and supplies such as syringes and needles without requiring a physician’s prescription or a face to face medical evaluation. Most of these companies arrange for shipment of HCG from Europe, India, or China in nondescript packaging for the purpose of evading customs and seizure. Needless to say that this is an inappropriate method of acquiring HCG.

There are also many companies that advertise and sell “oral HCG”, “liquid HCG”, or “HCG drops”. This is typically not genuine HCG.

This is how you can tell the difference:

Genuine oral human chorionic gonadotrophin

Dispensed in bottles with lyophilized HCG (dried by freezing in a high vacuum).

Must be mixed with a diluent prior to use.

Has a limited shelf life of about two weeks and must be kept refrigerated once mixed with a diluent.

Dosing of HCG is measured in IUs (International Units) and is twice daily.

Requires a prescription from a licensed physician.

Homeopathic “HCG”

This is a homeopathic remedy which does not contain any measurable amounts of human chorionic gonadotrophin.

Dispensed as a aqueous solution.

Does not need to be mixed prior to use.

Shelf life is measured in years and the solution does not require refrigeration.

Dosing is measured in number of drops and typically is at least three to four times daily.

Often sold by individuals who don’t have a medical license.

Most patients that I have spoken with that have used both genuine HCG and “homeopathic HCG” have reported that real HCG is much more effective.

This 59 year old woman presented to my office about one year ago complaining of hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, feeling mentally dull and irritable, trouble concentrating and focusing, memory problems, cold intolerance, depression, weakness, joint stiffness, muscle aches, low libido, and weight gain.

Her success story is one of many of women and men who are able to regain their youthful vitality after restoring their hormones to youthful levels using bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

The Wiley Protocol is a cutting-edge method that not only restores the hormone levels to optimal, but also does so rhythmically following the patterns that we normally see in healthy young women. Postmenopausal women who no longer have periods will follow the moon phase calendar as they as they apply accurately measured amounts of hormones to the skin each cycle.

Here is the patient’s testimonial:

“Next to meeting my husband and starting a family 32 years ago, Dr. Bloem is the best thing to ever happen to me!

During and after menopause 10 long years ago, I suffered terribly from night sweats and mood swings. I was a miserable and unhappy woman and I did not understand why. I took anti-depressants and they did not do much. I felt irritable and crabby almost every day. I had trouble sleeping and getting along with my cherished family.

After I heard about bio-identical hormones, I found a female doctor in Frederick who wanted to surgically place hormone pellets under my skin after I signed a one year contract agreeing to pay her $300 a month for one year on an automated payment system in order to ensure that I would stick with the program. Right away, my antenna went up to the strong possibility of future problems but I paid the money up front as required. Then, I could not get her to return my phone calls! I was hormonally enraged and disgusted! Not a pretty sight.

I immediately withdrew as a patient of this doctor (minus my deposit) and then I went back online to search for Dr. Bloem, whom I had earlier dismissed as out of my price range. After the unfortunate experience with the “boutique” doctor, I realized that Dr. Bloem was actually quite reasonably priced AND he was willing to make payment plans. No payments in advance required.

Then the best part of my story happened. I met Dr. Bloem and after a thorough check up, arranged to try the Wiley Protocol. I swear, the next day, I felt like a new and improved woman! I do not know if it was a placebo effect or what- but I was positively euphoric, just ask my family! I think that feeling almost immediately better after feeling so tired and thyroid deficient for so long, just made me feel truly on top of the world. I had energy again and I had my sense of humor back. My daughter even asked me, “Mom, is this what you used to be like, when you were young???”

Unfortunately, after a month or two of the Wiley Protocol, I learned that the high dosages were a bit much for my system and I was afraid to reveal my secret to the good Dr. Bloem for fear of being taken off the hormones altogether. Finally, I did manage to suck it up and confess my concerns to the doctor and I was so relieved to find that we could adjust and fine tune all the hormones!

Now, with the personalized amounts of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone that work for my body, l am back to my old self. I enjoy life, enjoy my family and I have energy and good health. My thyroid problems have disappeared and my mood is consistently positive and pretty darn joyful. My adult daughters think I am a really relaxed and humorous and my husband and I are no longer fighting. I have remembered why I married him and our love is stronger than ever. My husband has been amazed and grateful to have his wife back.

When I think how I suffered for 10 years with postmenopausal symptoms, I feel bad for all of the wasted time, but more than that, I am so full of gratitude to Dr. Bloem for restoring me to my former self.

This is nothing but the TRUTH in my unsolicited testimonial of Dr. Bloem’s value in reinvigorating and giving women back the quality of life that every woman deserves in order to have loving and fulfilling relationships.

Sometimes I think of my poor grandmothers. If only they had Dr. Bloem in their lives! We are very fortunate to have opportunities for prolonging our health and happiness in ways that they never could.

I literally give heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bloem every day of my life, and that is the God’s honest truth.

There are no words to express the blessings of Dr. Bloem offers. It is a priceless gift.”

Earlier this year a woman in her early thirties presented to my office with a chief complaint of obesity. She had not been able to find anyone who was willing to take her complaint seriously and treat her with the safest and most effective obesity treatment in existence today: the Dr. Simeons HCG Diet Protocol.

After reading an HCG Diet success story on my website she knew that I was able and willing to help her.

Some people will find it hard to understand why a slender young woman who is 5 feet and 8.5 inches (1.74 meters) tall and about 130 lbs. (59 kg) would seek out obesity treatment. However, when you understand that obesity is a disorder which is characterized by an accumulation of abnormal fat deposits and that it is not defined by a simple ratio between height and weight such as the body mass index (BMI), then you will appreciate that treatment of obesity in individuals with a slender body build makes perfect sense.

In the words of Dr. A.T.W. Simeons in his book Pounds and Inches – A New Approach to Obesity (pages 29 and 30):

“Not by Weight alone…

Weight alone is not a satisfactory criterion by which to judge whether a person is suffering from the disorder we call obesity or not. Every physician is familiar with the sylphlike lady who enters the consulting room and declares emphatically that she is getting horribly fat and wishes to reduce. Many an honest and sympathetic physician at once concludes that he is dealing with a “nut.” If he is busy he will give her short shrift, but if he has time he will weigh her and show her tables to prove that she is actually underweight.

I have never yet seen or heard of such a lady being convinced by either procedure. The reason is that in my experience the lady is nearly always right and the doctor wrong.

When such a patient is carefully examined one finds many signs of potential obesity, which is just about to become manifest as overweight. The patient distinctly feels that something is wrong with her, that a subtle change is taking place in her body, and this alarms her.

There are a number of signs and symptoms which are characteristic of obesity. In manifest obesity many and often all these signs and symptoms are present. In latent or just beginning cases some are always found, and it should be a rule that if two or more of the bodily signs are present, the case must be regarded as one that needs immediate help.”

The HCG Diet Protocol is the ideal treatment method for individuals who are struggling with obesity at any weight, including those whose body weight is considered normal by conventional BMI standards (BMI <25 is considered “normal” weight). As this patient explains, the HCG Diet Protocol is perfect for men and women who work as fashion or runway models. It is also recommended for actors and actresses, dancers, newscasters, and for anyone else whose livelihood depends on looking good in front of the camera or in public. Additionally, the HCG Diet Protocol is career-saving for athletes and for men and women who serve in the military and in other professions where they need to meet strict weight standards.

Here is the patient’s experience in her own words:

“Overall, I had great success with the protocol. I never once felt hungry which really surprised me. I used to eat a lot and all day long too. But there is just something special that the hcg does that makes it easy. Yes, it was difficult at times as I was pushing through some stubborn fat but getting past those hurdles was way worth it. I also had the extra benefit of detoxification. As the old fat cells were being flushed out, a lot of old toxins also got flushed away. Now I am thin but also much healthier. I can think better and I have a lot more energy.

I have been a life-long dieter and always concerned with my weight. I’ve never been naturally thin. So as soon as I hit puberty, I’ve had to work hard to stay slim. The only thing that sort of worked for me were diet pills and watching what I ate. But the minute I stopped watching what I ate, I’d easily gain again. I’ve had cellulite since I was a teenager that has never gone away and after my hcg protocol, I can happily say that it is ALL GONE! I still can’t believe it. Nothing ever worked before to get rid of it and I’ve tried it all.

Luckily even though I had to work HARD for it, I was accepted into the modeling and fashion world. I modeled internationally for magazines and the runway for 3 years. So, body image has always been important to me as well as health. In my opinion, too many models use unhealthy methods to stay thin. I know because I’ve witnessed it first-hand. I honestly think that any girl or guy that has aspirations to have a modeling career and has weight to lose or wants better muscle definition, this is by far, the most healthy way to go about it to get amazing results.

I’m now at 110 lbs, I’m 5 ft. 8 1/2 inches tall and I’m a size 2. I look and feel better now than I ever did even as a model. I’ve asked several people who know me well to guess my weight and every one guesses that I look to be about 120 lbs. I look normal and not starved because of the hcg. My face is not gaunt and my cheek bones don’t stick out either. That always worried me before. That if I got too thin, I would look anorexic, but I don’t. I am so overly thrilled with my results overall!! Thank you Dr. Bloem!”

Pictures 1, 2, and 3 (below) show the patient as she started the low-calorie phase of the HCG Diet Protocol (Phase 2). Pictures 4 and 5 show the patient after stopping the low-calorie phase of the HCG Diet Protocol and entering the next phase (Phase 3). Notable improvements include a significant reduction of abdominal fat with visible flattening of the stomach and slimming of her buttocks and thighs. Overall she lost an incredible 23.2 lbs. and 16 inches in 55 days!

When patients are following the HCG Diet Protocol under the supervision of an experienced physician and are monitored carefully, they will not only see a reduction in abnormal fat deposits, but they will often also experience an increased sense of well-being and an improvement of other complaints and health conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and joint aches.

Dr. Bloem is one of the most experienced physicians in the field of obesity treatment using the Dr. Simeons HCG Diet Protocol in the United States. He has studied with Dr. Daniel Belluscio from Argentina, a world renowned expert in this field. As a holistic physician he is able to help his patients lose weight safely and effectively and to treat a wide range of associated health conditions.

Here are two testimonials from a patient who received remote NeuroModulation Technique (NMT) treatment from me on two separate occasions. NMT is a cutting-edge method of energy healing which can be done in the office or remotely for patients who live far away or who for other reasons are unable to come to the office. NMT is a very powerful healing method and patients often experience rapid improvements in their health status.

“I am a 58 year old female with multiple medical problems. I became ill with the flu this last flu season. I had a horrible headache and generally just felt really sick. Dr. Bloem did an NMT treatment, remotely with me on the phone. It was very relaxing and when the treatment was over, my headache had eased considerable and I went on to sleep for a couple of hours. My flu bout seemed to be shorter than anyone else in the household.”

“While I was on a strict diet, my abdomen became very bloated. I was unable to expel any gas at all and I had a sharp pain in the left upper part of my abdomen. Dr. Bloem did an NMT treatment remotely, over the phone. Within 2 hours of the treatment, things started to move, I was able to expel gas and soon had a movement which relieved the pain almost entirely. The pain in my abdomen continued to decrease to a soreness then went away altogether within 2 days.”

Please check out my website to learn more about NMT.

This webinar was conducted on December 2, 2009. Dr. Eisenstein who is both a physician and an attorney explains in detail the legal issues related to vaccines. This is a must watch webinar to all who are concerned about vaccines and vaccine safety.

Thimerosal is mercury. Thimerosal is definitely in vaccines. Thimerosal clearly causes chronic disease, most prominently autism. It is Dr. Haley’s opinion that the current individuals in control of our nations vaccine program are destroying it by insisting on the safety of thimerosal at the levels injected and its continued use in face of overwhelming evidence of toxic effects on our children.

Dr. Haley first gave a seminar at a Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) conference in 1999 and testified before two National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine Committee meeting in 2000 and 2004 regarding the hypothesis that thimerosal (the mercury containing vaccine preservative) was the most likely causation of the apparent autism epidemic. Since 1999 Dr. Haley has done research and supported programs that would investigate the role of vaccines in autism spectrum disorders.

Dr. Haley received his BS in Chemistry/Physics from Franklin College in 1963. From 1964 to 66 he served as a medic in the U.S. Army. He obtained his M.S. in Chemistry at the University of Idaho (1967) and his Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry at Washington State University (1971). He was an National Institute of Health (NIH) Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Physiology, Yale University Medical School from 1971 to 1974. His first academic appointment was at the University of Wyoming in 1974 where he was promoted to full professor in 1983. In 1985 he was hired by the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center with academic appointments as professor in the College of Pharmacy in the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and in the Department of Biochemistry. He was appointed to be Chair and Professor of Chemistry/Biochemistry in the Department of Chemistry from 1996 to 2005. He retired from the University of Kentucky in July 2008. He has lectured throughout the world and testified before Congressional committees and the Institute of Medicine regarding various aspects of mercury toxicity and neurological diseases.

Doctors were proven ten years ago to be the third leading cause of death in the United States, published in JAMA, 7/26/2000 by Dr Barbara Starfield. This interview of Dr Starfield, the author of that frightening research finds if anything, the situation is WORSE today.

This is vital information for patients and doctors to be fully familiar with, as only by knowing the dangers of mainstream medicine can patients form a fully informed consent to use Alternative or Advanced Medicine, as I call it. If they know how serious the side effects of proposed mainstream medicine is they will realize how “doctored” the claims for its benefits are. In other words, just like for mild to moderate depression antidepressants are virtually useless, still they carry serious potential for harm. Yet patients that we treat really improve and have virtually no downside, except there is no insurance coverage in USA for natural medicine, only for toxic medicine that can kill, while the drugs simply mask symptoms, never treating causes, but at least it is “covered”.

Medically Caused Death In America: An Exclusive Interview With Dr. Barbara Starfield By Jon Rappoport

On July 26, 2000, the US medical community received a titanic shock to the system, when one of its most respected and honored public-health experts, Dr. Barbara Starfield, revealed her findings on healthcare in America.

The landmark Starfield study, “Is US health really the best in the world?”, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, came to the following conclusions:

Every year in the US there are:

12,000 deaths from unnecessary surgeries;

7,000 deaths from medication errors in hospitals;

20,000 deaths from other errors in hospitals;

80,000 deaths from infections acquired in hospitals;

106,000 deaths from FDA-approved correctly prescribed medicines.

The total of medically-caused deaths in the US every year is 225,000. This makes the medical system the third leading cause of death in the US, behind heart disease and cancer.

The Starfield study is the most explosive revelation about modern healthcare in America ever published. The credentials of its author and the journal in which it appeared are, within the highest medical circles, impeccable. Yet, on the heels of Starfield’s astonishing findings, although media reporting was extensive, it soon dwindled. No major newspaper or television network mounted an ongoing “Medicalgate” investigation. Neither the US Department of Justice nor federal health agencies undertook prolonged remedial action.

All in all, it seemed that those parties who could have taken effective steps to correct this mind-boggling situation preferred to ignore it.

On December 6-7, 2009, I interviewed Dr. Starfield by email.

What has been the level and tenor of the response to your findings, since 2000?

My papers on the benefits of primary care have been widely used, including in Congressional testimony and reports. However, the findings on the relatively poor health in the US have received almost no attention. The American public appears to have been hoodwinked into believing that more interventions lead to better health, and most people that I meet are completely unaware that the US does not have the ‘best health in the world’.

In the medical research community, have your medically-caused mortality statistics been debated, or have these figures been accepted, albeit with some degree of shame?

The findings have been accepted by those who study them. There has been only one detractor, a former medical school dean, who has received a lot of attention for claiming that the US health system is the best there is and we need more of it. He has a vested interest in medical schools and teaching hospitals (they are his constituency). They, of course, would like an even greater share of the pie than they now have, for training more specialists. (Of course, the problem is that we train specialists—at great public cost—who then do not practice up to their training—they spend half of their time doing work that should be done in primary care and don’t do it as well.)

Have health agencies of the federal government consulted with you on ways to mitigate the effects of the US medical system?

No.

Since the FDA approves every medical drug given to the American people, and certifies it as safe and effective, how can that agency remain calm about the fact that these medicines are causing 106,000 deaths per year?

Even though there will always be adverse events that cannot be anticipated, the fact is that more and more unsafe drugs are being approved for use. Many people attribute that to the fact that the pharmaceutical industry is (for the past ten years or so) required to pay the FDA for reviews—which puts the FDA into a untenable position of working for the industry it is regulating. There is a large literature on this.

Aren’t your 2000 findings a severe indictment of the FDA and its standard practices?

They are an indictment of the US health care industry: insurance companies, specialty and disease-oriented medical academia, the pharmaceutical and device manufacturing industries, all of which contribute heavily to re-election campaigns of members of Congress. The problem is that we do not have a government that is free of influence of vested interests. Alas, [it] is a general problem of our society—which clearly unbalances democracy.

Can you offer an opinion about how the FDA can be so mortally wrong about so many drugs?

Yes, it cannot divest itself from vested interests. (Again, [there is] a large literature about this, mostly unrecognized by the people because the industry-supported media give it no attention.

Would it be correct to say that, when your JAMA study was published in 2000, it caused a momentary stir and was thereafter ignored by the medical community and by pharmaceutical companies?

Are you sure it was a momentary stir? I still get at least one email a day asking for a reprint—ten years later! The problem is that its message is obscured by those that do not want any change in the US health care system.

Do medical schools in the US, and intern/residency programs in hospitals, offer significant primary care” physician training and education?

No. Some of the most prestigious medical teaching institutions do not even have family physician training programs [or] family medicine departments. The federal support for teaching institutions greatly favors specialist residencies, because it is calculated on the basis of hospital beds. [Dr. Starfield has done extensive research showing that family doctors, who deliver primary care—as opposed to armies of specialists—produce better outcomes for patients.]

Are you aware of any systematic efforts, since your 2000 JAMA study was published, to remedy the main categories of medically caused deaths in the US?

No systematic efforts; however, there have been a lot of studies. Most of them indicate higher rates [of death] than I calculated.

What was your personal reaction when you reached the conclusion that the US medical system was the third leading cause of death in the US?

I had previously done studies on international comparisons and knew that there were serious deficits in the US health care system, most notably in lack of universal coverage and a very poor primary care infrastructure. So I wasn’t surprised.

Has anyone from the FDA, since 2000, contacted you about the statistical findings in your JAMA paper?

No. Please remember that the problem is not only that some drugs are dangerous but that many drugs are overused or inappropriately used. The US public does not seem to recognize that inappropriate care is dangerous—more does not mean better. The problem is NOT mainly with the FDA but with population expectations. Some drugs are downright dangerous; they may be prescribed according to regulations but they are dangerous.

Concerning the national health plan before Congress—if the bill is passed, and it is business as usual after that, and medical care continues to be delivered in the same fashion, isn’t it logical to assume that the 225,000 deaths per year will rise?

Probably—but the balance is not clear. Certainly, those who are not insured now and will get help with financing will probably be marginally better off overall.

Did your 2000 JAMA study sail through peer review, or was there some opposition to publishing it?

It was rejected by the first journal that I sent it to, on the grounds that ‘it would not be interesting to readers’!

Do the 106,000 deaths from medical drugs only involve drugs prescribed to patients in hospitals, or does this statistic also cover people prescribed drugs who are not in-patients in hospitals?

I tried to include everything in my estimates. Since the commentary was written, many more dangerous drugs have been added to the marketplace.

106,000 people die as a result of CORRECTLY prescribed medicines. I believe that was your point in your 2000 study. Overuse of a drug or inappropriate use of a drug would not fall under the category of “correctly prescribed.” Therefore, people who die after “overuse” or “inappropriateuse” would be IN ADDITION TO the 106,000 and would fall into another or other categories.

‘Appropriate’ means that it is not counter to regulations. That does not mean that the drugs do not have adverse effects.

Some comments from the interviewer:

I’m aware there are reports, outside the mainstream, which conclude far more than 225,000 people in the US die every year as a result of medical treatment. For example, see the work of Carolyn Dean, Trueman Tuck, Gary Null, Martin Feldman, Debora Rasio, Dorothy Smith.

This interview with Dr. Starfield reveals that, even when an author has unassailable credentials within the medical-research establishment, the findings can result in no changes made to the system.

Yes, many persons and organizations within the medical system contribute to the annual death totals of patients, and media silence and public ignorance are certainly major factors, but the FDA is the assigned gatekeeper, when it comes to the safety of medical drugs. The buck stops there. If those drugs the FDA is certifying as safe are killing, like clockwork, 106,000 people a year, the Agency must be held accountable. The American people must understand that.

As for the other 119,000 people killed every year as a result of hospital treatment, this horror has to be laid at the doors of those institutions. Further, to the degree that hospitals are regulated and financed by state and federal governments, the relevant health agencies assume culpability.

It is astounding, as well, that the US Department of Justice has failed to weigh in on Starfield’s findings. If 225,000 medically caused deaths per year is not a crime by the Dept. of Justice’s standards, then what is?

To my knowledge, not one person in America has been fired from a job or even censured as a result of these medically caused deaths.

Dr. Starfield’s findings have been available for nine years. She has changed the perception of the medical landscape forever. In a half-sane nation, she would be accorded a degree of recognition that would, by comparison, make the considerable list of her awards pale. And significant and swift action would have been taken to punish the perpetrators of these crimes and reform the system from its foundations.

In these times, medical schools continue turning out a preponderance of specialists who then devote themselves to promoting the complexities of human illness and massive drug treatment. Whatever the shortcomings of family doctors, their tradition speaks to less treatment, more common sense, and a proper reliance on the immune systems of patients.

The pharmaceutical giants stand back and carve up the populace into “promising markets.” They seek new disease labels and new profits from more and more toxic drugs. They do whatever they can—legally or illegally—to influence doctors in their prescribing habits. Some drug studies which show negative results are buried. FDA panels are filled with doctors who have drug-company ties. Legislators are incessantly lobbied and supported with pharma campaign monies.

Nutrition, the cornerstone of good health, is ignored or devalued by most physicians. Meanwhile, the FDA continues to attack nutritional supplements, even though the overall safety record of these nutrients is good, whereas, once again, the medical drugs the FDA certifies as safe are killing 106,000 Americans per year.

Physicians are trained to pay exclusive homage to peer-reviewed published drug studies. These doctors unfailingly ignore the fact that, if medical drugs are killing a million Americans per decade, the studies on which those drugs are based must be fraudulent or, at the very least, massively incompetent. In other words, the whole literature is suspect, unreliable, and impenetrable.

At the same time, without evidence, doctors off-handedly tout their work with great confidence. Some years ago, a resident at a major New York hospital harangued me about the primacy of controlled studies. She boasted, in passing, that the hospital’s heart-bypass surgery team was considered the best in the city, and one of the best in the country. I asked her for a reference. Was her statement a combination of folk-wisdom and rumor, or was there a proper study that confirmed her opinion? A bit chagrined, she admitted it was hearsay. I was sure she would repeat her tune, however, many times.

Claiming evidence where there is none, and denying the evidence that the medical system does great harm, are apparently part of the weave of the modern Hippocratic Oath.

Dr. Craig will look at the history of how vaccination in the West began, from Lady Mary Wortley Montagu in 1718 to Edward Jenner’s experiments in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Medical voices from the past immediately opposing vaccination will include those of Charles Creighton MD, MB, and Walter Hadwen, M.D., who will tell us their thoughts on “cowpoxing”. The idea that cowpox pus ever prevented smallpox will be challenged with clearly defined tables to dispel any notion that smallpox was eradicated by a vaccine.

Dr. Craig holds a doctorate in medical education and a bachelor of science in nursing. Dr. Craig has held the position of associate professor at the University of British Columbia medical school. Before earning her doctorate, she was a ward sister (head nurse) in England when everyone knew who was in charge! Dr. Craig is now a writer. Her book Jabs, Jenner and Juggernauts: a Look at Vaccination was published in 2009.
